,

We are pleased to welcome you to the eighth edition of the Gymnázium Omská Model United Nations in a few weeks. As the event is approaching, the team’s greatest priority is to ensure you are as prepared as possible for this experience.

Opening and Closing Ceremonies

The conference will take place on the 8th-11th November. This year, the ceremonies are taking place at the Prague City Hall (Mariánské náměstí 2/2, 11000 Praha 1-Staré Město). Thus, on Friday 8th, we will be welcoming you from 9:45 AM to 11:00 PM at the entrance where registration will take place. If you for any reason will not be in time, please contact us beforehand so as to not disturb the opening speeches. If you won’t be able to attend any other parts of the conference, make sure to inform your Chairs.

On Monday and after the opening ceremony on Friday, the General Assembly (GA) will be held. The General Assembly is the main policy-making organ of the United Nations comprising all Member States, and thus all delegates of GOMUN24 will participate in the debate altogether. For all the newcomers - no one will be forced to speak, all delegates will however have to raise their placards and state whether their country is present after the Motion to Establish the Quorum. The P5 delegates of the Security Council will present their opening speeches on Friday at the GA. The voting on the GA will be done through the GOMUN Account, therefore please verify that you have no difficulty signing in. And if so, please contact us at registration@gomun.cz.

Icebreakers and Committee Diners

Icebreakers are the most informal event of MUN conferences. Many various games are played separately in each committee to set the atmosphere and to get to know each delegate (and the chairs) better. Icebreakers will take place after the Opening ceremony ends at 4:30 PM at various places in the Prague center. The delegates are also greatly encouraged to continue onto Committee Diners, to meet the other delegates further. The details about each committee’s Icebreakers will be shared with the delegates through the WhatsApp groups by your Chairs.

WhatsApp Groups

All delegates have already been added to their respective WhatsApp groups. In these groups you will be able to contact your chairs and fellow delegates, and all the updates about the conference will be posted there. If you have not been added to your group, please refer to this email with your name, your committee, and your phone number, and ensure that your WhatsApp app is running sufficiently.

Committee Work

The Committee work on Saturday and Sunday will be held at the hosting institution Gymnázium Omská (Omská 1300/4, 100 00 Praha 10-Vršovice). On both days, the participants will be able to register from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM.

Agenda, Handbook, and Other Important Documents

You will find all the important documents on our website. The handbook will serve you as a guide for the four days of the conference. In this document, you will find concrete information about the venues, transportation, social event, and the approximate agenda. Our international delegates may be inspired by the sightseeing section of the handbook.

Dress Code

Of course, as with any Model United Nations conference, GOMUN24 has a mandatory dress code: every participant should be wearing Western business attire (suit, formal dress/skirt, shirts, formal shoes, etc.) throughout the entirety of the conference.

GOMUN Social Event

The official social event of GOMUN is the Sunday GOMUN Ball. The theme for this year’s ball is the Roaring 20s! The event takes place on Sunday at 8:00 PM in the great hall of Masarykova Kolej (Thákurova 1, 160 41 Praha 6). The whole evening will be accompanied by authentic music. The program will be in segments, where you will have the opportunity to learn new dances or just enjoy yourself in the disco that will happen at the end of the ball. For the duration of the event, small refreshments and water will be offered to all guests; furthermore, a bar where one can purchase sweet and alcoholic drinks will be available. Please be aware that Czech law forbids persons under the age of eighteen from drinking alcoholic beverages, and all participants wishing to buy such beverages will have to provide a PHYSICAL FORM OF ID; otherwise, you will not be given the over-18 badge.".

As the theme of the ball is “The Roaring 20’s,” you’re to wear appropriate clothing matching the era. Men can add a vest to their suits, add a bowtie, or wear suspenders, etc. Women are recommended to wear an evening dress or a gown to capture the era's elegance. We further encourage you to spice up your outfit with various props and accessories. You may be inspired by movies such as The Great Gatsby or Chicago.

Position Papers

Lastly, we would like to remind all delegates that the deadline for the Position Paper is Tuesday the 5th at 11:59 PM. The submission of the Position Paper is mandatory and necessary to be eligible for a best-delegate award, honorable mention, or best newcomer. Please upload your Position Paper HERE. If you need any assistance with writing your papers or preparing for the conference, please consult our guides which can also be found on our website (Resolution Guide, Position Paper guide, etc.). Please note that the delegates of the Crisis Committee do not have to write a Position Paper, and delegates of the International Court of Justice are supposed to write Memorial briefs instead.

We remain at your disposal if you have any questions.

The entire GOMUN team is thrilled to welcome you in a few days for this unforgettable event.

Diplomatically yours,

Adam KRYHUT, Secretary-General of GOMUN24
